THE DIDDYMEN

For many years, Doddy has been famous for his ‘Diddymen’, a group of characters who ‘come from Knotty Ash’. They are children in costumes and they often sing songs with Doddy on stage and TV. They are:

-       Dicky Mint (who is the character which Doddy uses during his ventriloquism acts.)

-       Nigel Ponsonby-Smallpiece (quintessentially English)

-       Mick the Marmalizer (quintessentially Irish)

-       Wee Hamish (quintessentially Scottish)

-       Harry Cott

-       Sid Short

-       Weany Wally

-       Little Evan (quintessentially Welsh)

- Titch Doyle

The Diddymen live in the small (real) village of Knotty Ash in Merseyside and many of them work in the jam butty mines.

Over the years, lots of merchandise based around the Diddymen has been manufactured. Here are some of them:

WE ARE THE DIDDYMEN LYRICS (see video below)

D-I-D-D-Y! We are the Diddymen, Doddy's dotty Diddymen,

We are the Diddymen, who always have a bash,

We're full of diddy joys, we make a gay and diddy noise,

We are the Diddymen, who come from Knotty Ash,

In Diddy socks, diddy shoes, diddy hats, diddy troos,

Around the diddy city,

We sing a diddy ditty!

We are the Diddymen, Doddy's dotty Diddymen,

We are the Diddymen who come from Knotty Ash,

So here's Mick the Marmalizer!

He's 2ft7 tall!

And with his six-inch shillelagh,

Should he marmalize you all!

Here's Evan from the valleys,

He's travelled very far,

So to all the diddy Welshmen,

Here's a diddy yucky-da!

We are the Diddymen, itty bitty Diddymen,

We are the Diddymen who come from Knotty Ash,

From Invercockieleekie,

Wee Hamish that's his name,

He's only got a diddy sporran,

But he'll wiggle it just the same,

Here's Nigel Ponsonby-Smallpiece,

The cream of the elite,

Yes, follow him and you will see,

His diddy country seat

We are the Diddymen, itty bitty Diddymen,

We are the Diddymen who come from Knotty Ash,

???????????

????????? jambootiful!

????????????

We're feeling tattyfilarious,

Merry and gay, wherever we are!!

A diddy-ba-lay, a diddy-ba-lah!

Oh! We are the Diddymen, itty bitty Diddymen,

We are the Diddymen who always have a bash,

We hope it doesn't rain and wash us down the diddy drain!

We are the Diddymen who come from Knotty Ash,

In diddy hats, diddy smocks,

With money in our diddy box,

We march around the circus, singing 'up the diddy workers'!!

We are the Diddymen, Doddy's dotty Diddymen,

We are the Diddymen, so let the cymbals clash for the DIDDYMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Knotty Ash!!
